What a great time we had for the FUNdraiser campout April 16-17th 2011. We were blessed with beautiful clear weather, and wildflowers everywhere! We “dug” right in as soon as we arrived, working to clear a level spot for the evenings festivities. After a lunch break we set up camp. Shoveling and hauling gear, up and down the slope just below 4000 feet, in high 80′s /low 90′s temperature is no small feat. Everyone hung in there, and we wrapped up work at 4:00 Our group of 8 relaxed for Jen’s
informative lecture on the Joshua tree, rattlesnakes and the desert tortoise. After catching up on local news shared by our neighbors, we made a delicious spaghetti and vegan meatball dinner, salad and fresh baked bread. Establishing a precedent for high quality organic food served at DFHC. (Including s’mores with our campfire) Brandon entertained us with his Firespinning talents, Flame played Dijeridoo (made from a yucca root)and katie drummed for us and got to try spinning for the first time. Trance dance under the nearly full moon was amazing. It was so beautiful to consecrate the land with offerings of tobacco and sage, music and dance.
When we finally turned in, a slight breeze made for a long sleepless night in the tents. A dramatic fiery sunrise brought an abundance of quail activity.Kudos to the early birds who participated in morning yoga. A pancake breakfast was a good way to carb up for breaking camp and our final activity- a hike up the road to explore “the ruins”. A classic example of the mystery and intrigue of the high desert. Thanks to everyone who participated in our first public event!!

Desert Dreams
desert dreams like shifting sand
flow through my heart and through my hand
visions conjured up from space
blooming in this sacred place
thoughts that help and thoughts that heal
this meditation helps me feel
connected to the silent sounds
of past and present all around
native myth from ages past
whispered secrets wisdom vast
recreating peaceful songs
float on the air we hum along
and pray for peace to pierce our hearts
and mend the broken scattered parts
of illusions disappointment fears
smiles return baptized with tears
shamans sages angels guides
true alchemy resides inside
stir the grail of human kind
weave in our breath the tie that binds
Thank you Nancy for your musings! Beautiful words that capture the essence of what DFHC is to be!

With a storm on the way, myself and two friends went out Thursday the 24th and cleared a spot for two tents. located in front of a big juniper bush that is
a fantastic windbreak. we had the spot cleared in a couple of hours, our only visitor being the neighbors’ big black dog who came to see what we were up to. It was chilly with a breeze, but 20 minutes of moving earth kept us warm. Decided not to move the cactus we’d intended, likely won’t be in harm’s way. It was easy work, the ground is soft, made mostly of decomposed granite and sand with no rocks. i still shovel like a girl, but i’ll get plenty of practice!

A vision board is a collage made of pictures and words showing things, goals or changes you want to have appear in your life.Making the vision board helps you to focus your energy and manifest your desires more quickly. By stating your intention in a creative way, through symbols, we feel good in advance of receiving what we desire. ( a main key of manifestation) It is a visual map for your brain, so that every time you look at it, it sends the vibration of your good feeling desire out to the universe.Plus its a great way to recycle old magazines and junk mail.
I created this as my intention for 2011 for the things I want to see manifest for desert freedom healing center this year. Grading, and infrastructure comforts like fencing,a ramada for shade, trailer for shelter, peacewalk labyrinth, earth altar, and our first 10′dome to be our sweatlodge. Also, there is a section on inspiring architecture featuring “earthships”of new Mexico, traditional Navajo hogans, and the Biosphere domes in Cornwall England. I also made sure to paste a bunch of diverse happy people, eager to volunteer and create community in our formative years.

This dome is Not on our property. This is a example of a double eco dome, and the “superadobe” building method. This will be the first main building raised, and will house 2 indoor kitchens, 2 bathrooms, and the sun and moon temples. I discovered this dome being built on the first day I went out looking for property. I considered it a synchronicity that I was on the right path. I have since met the owner, and been inside to see finishing touches including stabilized earth flooring. Built mainly by a team of 3 -father, son and daughter over the course of 2 years. I am so grateful to the “pioneers of superadobe” in San Bernardino county, making this process more visible and acceptable to the building department. The hoops they’ve jumped through will undoubtedly make our process easier.
